It's not quite December, so I'm thinking that there is still plenty of time left to do some Christmas crafting. Christmas to me has always been about the handmade, ever since I was a little girl. My Grandmother was quite the talented maker of many wonderful things. It was always with anticipation that we opened her presents, hoping like crazy that this was the year that you would receive the gift that she had been working on for months. When I reflect, I can think of many of these gifts, but many I don't remember specifically, but, I do remember that her heart was full of joy and love and she loved creating and giving something special to all of us. Remember that when you are making something for someone special - it will be loved and it will create lifetime memories for them.
So, it's still November and I thought it only fitting to encourage and inspire you all to get cracking and embark on some Christmas projects.

I am not sure it counts as homemade, but my longed for gift is a love letter. My best friend's husband writes her a letter filled with love every Christmas and I think that is the best gift anyone could give.
ReplyDeleteMrs Smith - that just made me weep with joy. How beautiful!!
DeleteMe too Mrs Smith! And absolutely handmade. I do hope you get one!
DeleteIt is a sad truth that me receiving a love letter is highly unlikely. The luthier is not a wordsmith unfortunately. I have even gone to the extent of asking for one and he point blank refuses. Oh well, you gotta receive the love how it is given out, and it is given out in spades in my house, so I cannot complain. But, I just do so love the idea of sitting up in bed on Christmas morning, on my own, with a steaming cup of tea reading words of love from my man. Now, that would be Christmas.
DeleteAnything made by hand, just for the recipient is pretty special. This year my son will get a handsewn felt t-rex to go with the triceratops made last year.
ReplyDeleteThe best gift I've ever received though would have to be my patchwork quilt from my mum.
My daughter has just started painting all the white spaces on fabric and leaving the coloured bits to 'stand out' more. She then cuts out little pieces and glues them onto paper. Her creativity amazes me, at 5 she will soon be taking over my craft room. Anything handmade from Lucy will be a treasure.
ReplyDeleteWell... I want a love letter too now!
ReplyDeleteI still cherish the christmas cards made my boys made me when they were little and I would love them (17& 15 yr olds) to make me one this year, just so I could relive the mummy magic again..xx
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful cards made by my daughter are fantastic. To give I like to fit something made of fabric to the person eg guitar strap for my son;zippy pouch for a friend in a fabric that's just "them"
ReplyDeleteI love to make tote bags for Christmas, with fabric specially chosen to match the recipient, thereby saving the world from (hopefully) some more plastic bags.
ReplyDeleteThose first handmade gifts and cards from my littles are treasured and saved.
ReplyDeleteI'm making my mum a patchwork lap blanket for Christmas this year, so that's my favourite present to give :) As for receiving, I'd love some colourful bunting to hang over my bed.

I'm a fan of C&I Mosman Park (Kate Ryan) :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of C&I Balmain :)
ReplyDeleteI love homemade jewellery, it's nice to get something you can't buy in a store.
ReplyDeleteOh, well after looking at this post, I think I'd like a handmade advent calender! :) But I also love Mrs Smith's idea - and this year I actually made crochet envelopes and wrote in fabric pieces in them. I'd like to receive one of those myself! I am giving one niece a crochet rug - I am slowly making one for each niece and nephew. I like rugs - they are made slowly and with love, but are so cosy and useful too.
